Rate Information
We raised our rates in 2006 for the 2007 season to cover our rising costs since the last increase in 2003. Previous to that, we hadn’t raised the rates because of the high value of the U.S. Dollar. From 2003 2006, the U.S. Dollar has lost 25% of its value and within the last year the U.S. Dollar is now par with the Canadian Dollar. Our 2008 price increase reflects the above loss in U.S. Dollar value as well as the increase cost of Aviation Fuel. This is the first time in 35 years we have had to raise the rates two years in a row because of circumstances beyond our control.
Other pertinent information concerning prices:
After 9/11 insurance prices for aircraft went up 40%. We were told that the prices would gradually come down. Well, they haven’t.
We have tried to pre - purchase our AV gas and regular gas to get the best price during the winter. Every one of our suppliers has told us we can not do this. We have tried to import gas from the US to get a better deal but the trucking companies will not deliver. They only deliver gas to the big fuel brokers. We have made some small gains; we now belong to a Coop for the filling of our propane and we can somewhat control our propane costs. We have changed our AV gas supplier from ESSO to Shell and have managed to save very small margins there. Hopefully we have stirred up a little competition. Meanwhile, boat prices, gas refrigerators, solar equipment, outboard motors and lumber prices are all increasing 3 11% each year. We are concerned about raising prices 2 years in a row but the cost of fuel and low value of the US Dollar has had a very negative impact on our business. We just want to make sure that our customers know why our prices are going up too. We welcome any questions or comments.
